Chris: Geoff and I spent a year recording the album in Los Angeles having met at the reformed Buggles "lost gig" show in London September 2010. I had been involved with Producers for some years before that although I left in 2009 due to my relocating to LA.. Geoff and I decided to work together and write some material which then turned into a full album. Geoff was recording Fly From Here and I was writing and producing Lana Del Rey and Paloma Faith at the same time so we were kind of "moonlighting" . The name DBA came about because we kept referring to our secret recording sessions as "The Downes Braide Affair" (later renamed Downes , Braide Association). I had been hugely influenced by Geoff's playing as a kid. The sound of the Solina string machine and his chords were the soundtrack of my childhood. Without Geoff's wonderfully idiosyncratic playing and gorgeous chord sequences there would be no Video Killed The Radio Star as we know it. I'm a fan and he's a fan of what I do so it was the most fun I've had producing an album for years. The plan is to push forward with the release of the album once the new Asia record has done it's thing.

The songs started life as 10 individual pieces but we started to talk about the idea of a classic Yes style elongated piece played by machines. So the opening track is now 13 minutes long with various themes and a reprise. It just worked so well this way. We were both bored of the idea of one 3 minute song followed by the next. In a way it sounds like what the 1980 Geoff Downes might have done in 2012 . There is a narrative woven throughout the songs too. The concept or theme is of a fan watching his idol fall from grace. A Bolan type figure who has it all, is beautiful but loses their way in the glare of fame. I wrote and sang lead vocals on a track from the forthcoming Producers album called Watching You Out There which is a continuation of that theme. Something I’m fascinated by.

Geoff and I are thrilled with how the record turned out and are truly excited to unleash it on Vinyl this summer thanks to Chris Topham and his fantastic new label Plane Groovy.
