Chris: Geoff and I spent a year recording the album in Los Angeles having met at the reformed Buggles “lost gig” show in London September 2010. I had been involved with Producers for some years before that although I left in 2009 due to my relocating to LA.. Geoff and I decided to work together and write some material which then turned into a full album. Geoff was recording Fly From Here and I was writing and producing Lana Del Rey and Paloma Faith at the same time so we were kind of “moonlighting” . The name DBA came about because we kept referring to our secret recording sessions as “The Downes Braide Affair” (later renamed Downes , Braide Association). I had been hugely influenced by Geoff’s playing as a kid. The sound of the Solina string machine and his chords were the soundtrack of my childhood. Without Geoff’s wonderfully idiosyncratic playing and gorgeous chord sequences there would be no Video Killed The Radio Star as we know it. I’m a fan and he’s a fan of what I do so it was the most fun I’ve had producing an album for years. The plan is to push forward with the release of the album once the new Asia record has done it’s thing.
